Government secondary school, Numan and Government Girls secondary school, Yola, Adamawa state, have emerged winners of the Savannah Conference Nestle Milo basketball championship in both boys and girls categories.
The final, which was played at the indoor sports Hall of Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata, attracted a large number of spectators who came to cheer their darling teams.
The seven-day tournament was organised by the Nigerian School Sports Federation NSSF with the support of the Nestle Milo company to develop the game at the grassroots level, especially in secondary schools across the country.
Four States to Host Milo Basketball Conferences-NSSF
The Adamawa sides have defeated highly rated Ahmadiyya College boys and girls in an interesting and energy-sapping encounter.
Ahmadiyya college boys lost 45-71 points while Ahmadiyya girls also conceded 33-75 in the finals.
With this victory, the Adamawa sides, both boys and girls, would represent the Savannah Conference in the final stage of the tournament in Lagos later in the year.
FIBA President Praises Kano Gov for Sustaining Sports Facilities
Prizes, gifts, certificates, cash and trophies as well as individuals awards were presented to the deserving schools by the personalities who graced the finals include Nestle Milo’s Category Development Manage, Funmilola Abiola Oyewole.
The Acting chairman of Kano state Sports Commission, Ibrahim Umar Fagge FIFA, the President of Zone 3 Federation of international basketball FIBA Colonel Samuel Amedu, the secretary general of the Nigerian School Sports Federation NSSF. Oba Funso Usman among others.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Nestle Milo Category Development Manager, Funmilola Abiola Oyewole pledged that the company will continue to complement Government efforts especially sustaining the championship at secondary schools in order to motivate and encourage the students to excel both academic and sporting activities.
Funmilola Abiola Oyewole who spoke through Mr. Charles Ikpe said the outfit has greatly contributed to the development of basketball where national and international stars were produced.
The Central conference will now commence from May 10th to 17th in Abuja, Atlantic conference is from 20th to 27th while Western conference will take place from May 28th to June 4th in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The Grand final will hold at the indoor sports Hall of the national stadium, Surulere, Lagos later in the year.
