Residents of Bazabe Quarters in Albasu Local Government Area were thrown into mourning after two men, Usman Muhammad and Ibrahim Inuwa, suffocated to death in a pit latrine.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to journalists.
According to him, the Takai Fire Service Station received a distress call from Inspector Auwalu, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team.
Saminu explained that 40-year-old Usman Muhammad had accidentally dropped his phone into a pit latrine and went in to retrieve it.
He noted that Ibrahim Inuwa made an attempt to rescue Usman by tying a rope around him.
However, Ibrahim also lost consciousness while inside the pit.
“Our men rushed to the scene and successfully rescued both men, but they were found unconscious and were later confirmed dead,”
Saminu explained that he bodies were handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Albasu LGA, Kabiru Magawata.who handed them.over to their relatives for burial according to Islamic teaching.
Similarly, a 33-year-old man, Muhammad Sagir, lost his life after falling into a dry well at Kawon Alhaji Sani Layin Mai, Nasarawa LGA.
Saminu noted that rescue officers from the Fire Service Headquarters were dispatched immediately to the scene and retrieved Sagir from the well unconscious.
“After being confirmed dead, his body was handed over to the ward head of Kawon Arewa, Alh. Hamisu”
Saminu called on the public to always prioritize safety and report emergencies to the nearest fire service office or through its 24-hour hotline.
