The Kano State Accountability Forum on Education (K-SAFE) has called on the Kano State Government to ensure the timely release of approved education budgets to accelerate development in the sector and align with global standards.
The appeal was made by the forum’s co-chair, Associate Professor Auwal Halilu, during an advocacy visit to the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda.

Halilu emphasized that timely disbursement of budgeted funds remains critical for achieving tangible outcomes in the state’s education system.
Other recommendations by K-SAFE prompt release and implementation of education budgets,Recruitment and deployment of more teachers, especially to rural areas and Timely approval of memos and education-related requests.
He noted that, others are full implementation of the Education Emergency Response Plan (EERP),Strengthened monitoring and supervision of schools as well as Sustained and inclusive infrastructure development.

“We appeal for continued attention to upgrading and expanding school infrastructure, particularly ensuring inclusive facilities for girls, children with disabilities, and conflict-affected learners,”
Responding the Kano state Commissioner of education Dr Ali Haruna Makoda commeded the contributions of K-SAFE, noting that the group’s advocacy is pivotal to the ongoing transformation of the education sector in the state.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to revamping education, highlighting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had declared a state of emergency on education shortly after assuming office.
He said some of the Key Government Interventions includes recruitment board f 4,315 additional teachers, supplementing the over 5,000 recently employed.
Transition of BEZDA voluntary teachers to permanent and pensionable staff and recruitment of 400 specialized teachers in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry
He said Governor Yusuf has Directed all 44 LGAs to hire 400 security staff each, totaling 17,600 personnel for school safety.
Dr. Makoda urged K-SAFE to maintain its momentum and called on other stakeholders to emulate the group’s proactive stance for the greater good of education in Kano State.
