A major highlight of the second day was the emphasis on the role of the Primary Health Care Advisory Committee as a mechanism for improving oversight at the local level.

Chairmen were urged to ensure the committees are fully functional, inclusive, and adequately funded to drive sustainable improvements in health outcomes.

During technical sessions, participants mapped out concrete action steps to sustain reforms under the Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) policy. Key resolutions include:

Holding quarterly review meetings between KSPHCMB and ALGON for improved coordination.

Recruiting additional midwives in LGAs facing shortages to improve maternal and child health services.

Establishing PHC Task Force Committees at the LGA level to enhance oversight.

Expanding Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) capitalization to cover more facilities and ensure sustainable access to essential medicines.

Holding bi-annual review meetings between health sector leaders, the legislature, and LGA Chairmen to track progress.

In his closing remarks, the Kano State Commissioner for Health commended the commitment of the local government leaders, assuring them of government’s determination to revitalize over 1,200 PHC facilities and expand access to affordable, quality health care across the state.

KNSG Targets Universal Health Coverage with Joint Oversight Drive

The Director General of KSPHCMB also appreciated FCDO Lafiya for its support, while charging LGA Chairmen to translate workshop resolutions into tangible community-level improvements.

He stressed that revitalizing PHC is a necessity for achieving universal health coverage in Kano State.

The event ended with goodwill messages and a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to build stronger, more resilient primary health systems that can deliver better health outcomes for the people of Kano.
