The Kano State Accountability Forum on Education (K-SAFE) has stepped up efforts to promote inclusive education through an advocacy visit to the Kano State Qur’anic and Islamiyya Schools Management Board.
The delegation, led by Co-Chair of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Dr. Auwalu Halilu, engaged the board in discussions focused on strengthening the integration of Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools into Kano State’s formal education system.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Halilu said the initiative is part of K-SAFE’s ongoing commitment to advancing equitable and sustainable education, particularly for children enrolled in traditional and non-formal learning institutions.
Both parties explored strategies to ensure the formal recognition, standardisation, and overall quality improvement of Tsangaya and Islamiyya education, while aligning them with existing state education policies.
Dr. Halilu stressed the importance of collaborative planning and coordinated interventions to expand access to literacy, numeracy, life skills, and values-based education among learners in these schools.
He also highlighted the need to preserve the cultural and religious identity of Tsangaya and Islamiyya institutions while integrating them into the broader formal education framework.

Key areas discussed during the meeting included enhancing teacher capacity, improving the availability of teaching and learning materials, and strengthening monitoring and support systems to achieve better learning outcomes.
Participants further highlighted the importance of data-driven planning, active community engagement, and sustained policy backing to ensure that children in Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools are not excluded from ongoing education reforms.
K-SAFE reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the board and other stakeholders to support policy implementation, improve accountability, and promote sustainable education pathways across Kano state.
