The Kano State House of Assembly KNHA has directed its House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the utilization of security funds by all 44 local government councils and submit its findings within two weeks.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency, Garba Yau’u Gwarmai, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Moving the motion, Gwarmai raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Yan Kamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, where suspected bandits reportedly launched a deadly attack that claimed several lives.
According to the lawmaker, the attackers, believed to have crossed into Kano from neighbouring Katsina State, invaded the community about three to four weeks ago, killing more than eight people, including a pregnant woman and her two children. He added that five farmers were also killed during the attack.
Gwarmai warned that the incident required urgent government intervention to prevent the violence from spreading to other parts of the state.
He noted that security personnel stationed in the area serve both Kano and Katsina states, stressing the need for greater support to enable them to effectively combat criminal activities.
The lawmaker lamented that residents had abandoned their farms due to fear of further attacks, a development he said was threatening livelihoods and food production.
He called on the government to provide security agencies with adequate operational equipment and decent accommodation to enhance their effectiveness.
“If urgent action is not taken, the security situation may spread to other parts of the state and even prevent residents of Yan Kamaye from participating in future elections,”
While acknowledging the efforts of the Kano State Government in addressing insecurity, Gwarmai maintained that more proactive measures were needed to stop the violence from extending to neighbouring local government areas, including Bichi, Dawakin Tofa and Ungogo.
Seconding the motion, the Deputy Speaker and member representing Rimin Gado/Tofa Constituency Muhammad Bello Butu Butu stressed the importance of collaboration among communities in Kano North and called for improved intelligence sharing between residents and security agencies to curb the growing threat.
Other lawmakers who contributed to the debate included the Minority Leader, Usman Tasiu Kiru, Salisu Ibrahim (Doguwa), and Inusa Haruna (Gwarzo), all of whom expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation and supported the call for stronger intervention.
After careful deliberations, the House directed its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate how local government councils have utilized security funds and report back to the Assembly within two weeks.

The Assembly later adjourned plenary to the next day in a motion moved by the Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini.
