The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Bello Abubakar of Ganwo Village in Yauri Local Government Area, in connection with an alleged case of attempted culpable homicide and robbery.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to the statement, the incident occurred when a commercial motorcycle rider, Bello Umar of Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga Local Government Area.
The victim was rushed to Koko General Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
The statement said investigation revealed that the suspect had hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush, where he allegedly attacked him with a hoe.
Believing that the victim was dead, the suspect reportedly covered his body with leaves and fled with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.
Police said diligent investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of the suspect, who is cooperating with investigators.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
In a separate development, the Command said it had arrested six suspects in connection with cable vandalism and breaking and entry into the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Jega.
The police said all six stolen generators were recovered, although one had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale.
The Command also arrested Aliyu Muhammed of Dudduke Village in Jega Local Government Area in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to conspiring with one Yusuf Dudduke to vandalise and steal cables from an electric pole in Dudduke Village.
The Police Public Relations Officer said all the suspects remained in custody and would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
