The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano Territorial Office, in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) of Jigawa State, celebrated the 2024 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction IDDRR.
The IDDRR took place at the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in Kiyawa Local Government Area (LGA) Jigawa.
The event aims at addressing the growing threat of climate-related disasters such as floods.
The 2024 UN International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction IDDRR observed on October 13, highlighted global efforts to mitigate the risks associated with natural disasters, with a focus on education and empowering the youth.
The theme for this year, ”Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future,” emphasized the role of education in safeguarding communities and enabling young people to take part in disaster risk reduction initiatives.
Globally, events were held to promote disaster preparedness and resilience.
The celebration underscored the need for both local and international actions to build safer, more resilient communities for future generations.
