The Registrar of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Malam Haruna Aliyu, has been nominated for the 2026 AfricanAGE Academic Excellence and Educational Leadership Award.
The nomination is in recognition of his contributions to educational leadership, innovation, research and institutional development, according to the AfricanAGE Awards Committee and Editorial Board of AfricanAGE International Magazine.

The nomination was conveyed in an official letter dated September 15, 2026, signed by the Chairman of the Award Committee, Prince Sado A. O. Patrick, and the Executive Director of AfricanAGE Nigeria Limited, Mrs Philomina Onoshovhena.
The organisers said Aliyu emerged among what they described as impactful leaders in Nigeria’s education sector following an assessment and nomination process conducted by the Editorial Board in August 2026.
According to the committee, the assessment considered areas including educational leadership, academic standards, research output, innovation, administrative efficiency, institutional growth, community engagement and contributions to educational advancement.
The organisers said the award recognises individuals whose leadership, integrity, innovation and commitment have contributed to academic excellence, research, human capital development and quality education across Africa.

They added that Aliyu’s work in institutional development, scholarship, mentorship and educational administration distinguished him for the nomination.
The award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.
According to the organisers, recipients will receive a Gold Plaque and Certificate of Excellence at the ceremony, which is expected to bring together representatives from academia, government, the diplomatic community, traditional institutions, professional bodies and the private sector.
The ceremony is expected to be chaired by former Minister of Information and Culture, Professor Jerry Gana, while former President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator David Mark, is listed as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Etsu Nupe, His Royal Majesty Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Abubakar, is expected to serve as the Royal Father of the Day.
The nomination committee said further details concerning the award ceremony would be communicated to relevant stakeholders ahead of the event.
