The Kano State House of Assembly KNHA has received four executive bills transmitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for legislative consideration, while also moving to confirm the nomination of a secretary for Kumbotso Local Government.
During plenary, the Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore read a letter from Governor Yusuf informing the House of the approval of the bills by the State Executive Council and requesting their consideration.
The bills include the Kano State Local Government Administration Bill, 2025, Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill, 2025, Kano State Education Bill, 2025, and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Danbatta Bill, 2025.
According to the governor, the proposed legislations are aimed at strengthening the institutional framework for local government administration, establishing a coordinated economic planning and development structure, improving education administration and service delivery, and providing an updated legal framework for the effective management and growth of the college.
He stated that the bills represent strategic interventions designed to enhance administrative efficiency, accelerate human capital development, and consolidate the state’s development priorities.
Following the presentation, the Speaker referred the four bills to the relevant House Committee for further legislative action.
The House also considered the report of its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the screening and confirmation of Kabiru Nasir Hassan as Secretary of Kumbotso Local Government.
Presenting the committee’s report, the Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala said the nominee was screened in line with the provisions of the Kano State Local Government Law, 2006 (as amended).
The committee noted that Hassan appeared before it on June 9, 2026, where his credentials and qualifications were thoroughly examined.
The committee found him qualified for the position, noting that he holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and met all statutory requirements for appointment.
Consequently, the committee recommended that the House confirm Kabiru Nasir Hassan as Secretary of Kumbotso Local Government, urging members to adopt the report and forward the resolution to the executive for necessary action.
