The Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement Projects Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME) has pledged to sustain strict monitoring of government projects to ensure quality execution and accountability after inspecting 12 strategic infrastructure projects valued at more than ₦21.6 billion across Kano metropolis.
The assessment tour, led by the Commissioner, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, reviewed the level of progress, compliance with project specifications, and adherence to contractual standards on key government projects.
The inspection commenced at the ongoing renovation of the historic Kano Central Jumu’at Mosque, where construction has reached an advanced stage and is nearing completion.
Worshippers who interacted with the monitoring team expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, describing the renovation as a landmark intervention by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Despite the progress, some worshippers raised concerns over minor leakages observed in parts of the mosque’s roofing following the first major rainfall of the season.
Responding to the complaints, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila assured them that the issue would be immediately brought to the attention of the contractor for prompt corrective action before the project is completed and handed over.
Speaking during the inspection, the Sarkin Ladanan Kano commended the state government for preserving one of Kano’s most important religious landmarks.
He urged the supervising ministry to ensure the contractor completes the remaining works without delay and also conveyed the preferences of mosque users regarding finishing colours and other aesthetic details.
The monitoring team also visited the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Kofar Kudu, one of the state’s flagship healthcare projects designed to modernise public hospitals. The inspection covered key facilities, including the Abba Care Sickle Cell Centre, the Nutrition Unit, and the Free Drugs Services Unit.
Residents and neighbouring communities commended the scale of transformation at the hospital, noting that the facility is rapidly emerging as a modern healthcare institution capable of competing with leading medical centres in Nigeria.
During the visit, the Commissioner assessed the quality of construction, compliance with engineering standards, adherence to contractual terms, and the overall pace of work, reaffirming the ministry’s determination to ensure quality delivery.
