Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his determination to combat corruption and maintain transparency in governance, stating, “I am already on my feet to fight corruption.”
He made this declaration while hosting executive members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the Kano Government House during a stakeholders’ meeting.
Governor Yusuf highlighted the significance of eliminating corruption and financial leakages as a cornerstone of his administration’s policies.
He noted that thorough scrutiny of the state’s financial records preceded the signing of the minimum wage bill into law, ensuring its uninterrupted implementation despite challenges such as the state’s limited Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and an additional financial burden of over ₦6 billion monthly.
The governor assured the NLC delegation that measures are underway to boost the state’s IGR while simultaneously ensuring the welfare of Kano citizens.
He emphasized his administration’s focus on education, citing the ongoing Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, which has sponsored 600 students for master’s degrees abroad, with many already completing their studies successfully.
The governor disclosed plans to visit India next week to evaluate the progress of Kano students currently studying there.
Additionally, Governor Yusuf revealed the revival of 26 Entrepreneur Institutions aimed at equipping the youth with skills to enhance their productivity and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
NLC Chairman, Mr. Joe Ajaero, commended the governor’s dedication to the welfare of Kano residents and urged other leaders to emulate his example.
The governor concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous development of Kano State.
