The Chairman of the Kano State Taskforce on Mobilisation for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has inaugurated 12 specialised subcommittees aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation and increasing citizens’ participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise across the state.
The initiative comes as Kano continues to maintain its position as the leading state in Nigeria in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking during the inauguration of the committees, Waiya said the move was designed to consolidate the gains already recorded in the voter registration campaign while expanding outreach to critical segments of society ahead of future elections.
According to him, the newly constituted subcommittees comprise distinguished individuals drawn from government institutions, traditional councils, civil society organisations, labour unions, religious bodies, the media, and other key stakeholder groups.
Under the new structure, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Othman, will head the Local Government Engagement Subcommittee, while the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, will lead the Data Analysis and ICT Subcommittee.
Women mobilisation efforts will be coordinated by Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, while the Managing Director of Radio Kano, Abubakar Adamu Rano, has been appointed Chairman of the Publicity Subcommittee.
The District Head of Rimin Gado, Dan Malikin Kano, Comrade Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, will oversee engagement with traditional institutions, while the Secretary of the Council of Ulama, Malam Ibrahim Abubakar Tofa, will coordinate outreach to religious leaders and organisations.
Other appointments include Alhaji Tijjani Abdullahi Sarki, Director-General of the Kano State Chamber of Commerce, who will chair the Business Community Engagement Subcommittee, while the Special Adviser on Policy, Hon. Mohammed Danyaro Yakasai, will head the Transport Associations Engagement Subcommittee.

The Students Engagement Subcommittee will be chaired by the Special Adviser on Student Matters, Alhaji Yusuf Jibrin Oyoyo, while the Civil Society Organisations, Political Parties and Persons with Special Needs Subcommittee will be led by Comrade Mustapha Mohammad Ciroma.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant on Fulbe Affairs, Rukkayya Umar Gaya, will chair the Fulbe Engagement Subcommittee, while Comrade Abbas Ibrahim will head the Organised Labour Engagement Subcommittee.
Waiya explained that the composition of the committees was guided by merit, competence, and areas of expertise to ensure effective engagement across all sectors of society.
He noted that the taskforce’s mandate extends beyond voter registration to include sustained mobilisation for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and encouraging citizens to participate actively in elections.
“Our assignment is not limited to registering eligible voters. We are equally committed to ensuring that registered voters collect their PVCs and participate actively in the democratic process. Democracy can only thrive when citizens exercise their civic responsibility,” he said.
The taskforce chairman expressed confidence that the broad-based stakeholder engagement strategy would further strengthen Kano State’s impressive performance in the ongoing CVR exercise and contribute significantly to deepening democratic participation.
He also commended the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for providing the necessary logistical support and creating an enabling environment for the successful implementation of the mobilisation campaign.

According to Waiya, the establishment of the specialised subcommittees reflects a deliberate effort to take voter education and mobilisation to the grassroots, ensuring that no segment of society is left behind in the drive to enhance democratic participation in Kano State.
