The Kano State Government has provided modern equipment to the State Road Traffic Department to enhance its operational capacity and enable it to respond effectively to emerging challenges in road transportation.
The Director of the Department, Alhaji Tasiu Gambo Garo, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities and achievements of the department.
Alhaji Garo commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for responding to the department’s request for upgraded equipment to improve its operations.
He said the intervention had positioned the Kano State Road Traffic Department to compete favourably with similar agencies across the country.
The Director explained that the department’s driving school had been equipped with driving simulators to enhance the training of drivers and staff.
He said drivers from government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, as well as private companies, were already benefiting from the training, and urged more organisations to patronise the service by sending their drivers for training.
Alhaji Garo also disclosed that the administrative building and staff offices had undergone general renovation, while additional office blocks had been constructed to improve working conditions.
He added that operational vehicles and towing vans had also been refurbished to strengthen the department’s field operations.
On enforcement, the Director said at least 100 vehicles with roadworthiness defects are detained every month across the department’s 18 zonal offices covering the 44 local government areas of the state.
He expressed optimism that the proposed Motor Vehicle Administrative Bill, if passed into law by the Kano State House of Assembly, would further strengthen the operational capacity of the department.
The Director urged motorists to renew their vehicle particulars as and when due to avoid unnecessary encounters with Vehicle Inspection Officers.
