Following multiple fire outbreaks in Ugwuaji, Ogbete, and Ngwo communities within the Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Enugu Operations Office, flagged off the direct distribution of relief materials to affected residents.
The intervention followed earlier assessments conducted by NEMA, which confirmed the incidents and revealed significant losses of property, goods, and means of livelihood suffered by several households.
The relief distribution exercise was carried out by NEMA in collaboration with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, to ensure transparency, equity, and broad coverage of affected communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Head of Operations, Mrs. Shantel Chukwu conveyed the sympathy of the Federal Government and the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the victims of the unfortunate fire incidents.
She encouraged beneficiaries to remain hopeful and assured them of the Federal Government’s continued commitment to supporting disaster-affected persons.
In his remarks, the Member representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, Hon Chimobi Sam Atu, expressed appreciation to NEMA, particularly the Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for the Agency’s prompt response and timely intervention.
He noted that the support provided much-needed relief and renewed encouragement to victims at a critical time when many had lost hope of recovery.
Other stakeholders present during the exercise included representatives of community Presidents General, and other community leaders.
