President Bola Tinubu announced that Nigerians and other commuters would enjoy free train rides on the Abuja Metro Line until the end of the year.
This announcement came during the re-launch of commercial operations on the Abuja Light Rail. Initially, the plan was for two months of free rides, but the President extended it to the year’s end to encourage public celebration.

President Tinubu described the reopening of the Abuja Metro Line as a significant milestone and a testament to his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and transportation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The metro line, originally commissioned in 2018 but rendered inactive due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent neglect, was revitalized under his administration with the support of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The project, which includes completed access roads to various stations, cost N21.4 billion, with a $30 million contract sum paid to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The metro line now features 12 trains, each capable of carrying 700 passengers and making 14 trips daily, potentially transporting 980,000 passengers monthly.
This initiative, part of the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aims to enhance public infrastructure and services, demonstrating the government’s dedication to fulfilling its promise
