The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has commissioned an ultra-modern abattoir and distributed hundreds of cows and rams to butchers and livestock traders at Kasuwan Amaru in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Abbas expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting him the opportunity to execute the project, describing it as a significant intervention aimed at improving the livestock and meat-processing sector in the area.
The Speaker also acknowledged the support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the President’s approval and assistance contributed significantly to the successful completion of the project.
According to him, the establishment of the modern abattoir marks a major milestone for Zaria, where residents had long anticipated the development of a modern facility for meat processing and preservation.
Abbas stated that the project would enhance hygiene standards, improve meat handling and preservation, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic activities within the community and beyond.
He added that the distribution of cows and rams was designed to support butchers and livestock traders, strengthen their businesses, and improve their livelihoods.
Earlier, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area, Engr. Muhammad Jamilu Ahmad, commended the Speaker for constructing the ultra-modern abattoir and providing livestock worth millions of naira to support local traders.
He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the support, stressing that the intervention was intended to improve their economic fortunes and contribute to the development of the local economy.
Also speaking, former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would significantly boost the livestock and meat-processing industry in Zaria and its environs.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Zaria Local Government Traders Association, Alhaji Yawale Dan Goma, and the Chairman of the Butchers Association in Zaria Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Bata, expressed appreciation to the Speaker for the gesture, saying it would greatly improve the economic wellbeing of their members.
The event attracted a large number of dignitaries and community members, including the Chairman of the North-West Development Commission, Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi; APC North-West Zonal Chairman, Hon. Datti Babawo; Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi; commissioners, political leaders, and other stakeholders from across Kaduna State.
