The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said major ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja are expected to be completed and handed over by January 2027.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday, September 21, 2026, after inspecting several ongoing road and bridge projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

The projects inspected included the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX), the Southern Parkway in Gaduwa and the road linking the Nile University axis to Ring Road 3.
At the ISEX project, being executed by CGC Nigeria Limited, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, saying the contractor had committed to handing over the project by December 2026.
He also inspected the Southern Parkway in Gaduwa, where construction of a second bridge is ongoing. He said heavy rainfall had affected the commencement of earthworks but expressed confidence that work would intensify once the rains subsided.
At the Nile University axis, where CCECC is handling the road project leading to Ring Road 3, Wike said the contractor had committed to completing and handing over the project by the first week of January 2027.
The Minister said the inspection was part of efforts to monitor projects promised to residents and ensure that contractors meet agreed delivery timelines.
Wike said he was previously concerned about the pace of work on some of the projects but had become more confident following renewed commitments from the contractors.

He commended CGC Nigeria Limited and CCECC for their assurances and expressed confidence that the projects would be delivered within the agreed timelines.
The Minister also addressed criticism surrounding the Rainbow Coalition, a cross-party political platform he has promoted ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike said his stated objective was to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term, arguing that the coalition was not intended to destabilise the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His comments come amid opposition from some APC governors and political actors who have raised concerns about the coalition’s potential impact on the party’s structures and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Minister rejected the allegations and said the coalition was intended to mobilise support for Tinubu across political affiliations.
He also dismissed speculation that the coalition was designed to position him for the 2031 presidential election, saying political developments beyond the 2027 election should not be predetermined.

Wike said he would provide further details about what he described as the reasons behind opposition to the Rainbow Coalition during a television appearance.
Meanwhile, the Minister reiterated that the FCT Administration would continue to monitor ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure that contractors adhere to agreed schedules and deliver projects to residents.
