A non governmental organization NGO Zayt Foundation for Women and Children, in collaboration with the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), has enrolled 270 almajiri children into the state’s contributory healthcare system.

Earlier, the foundation had registered 170 young almajiris, while the state government sponsored an additional 100 at Hausawan Danfulani in Tarauni Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Mukhtar, said the partnership was designed to provide vulnerable children with free access to medical care.

She explained that Zayt Foundation approached the agency with 170 almajiris, complete with birth certificates, for sponsorship into the scheme, while the state government supported 100 others.

Dr. Rahila emphasized that the children would benefit from both primary and secondary healthcare services across government-owned facilities.

She commended the Foundation for its initiative and urged other organizations to emulate the gesture.

In his remarks, chairman of the Foundation, Salisu Umar Gama, described the initiative as a significant step toward improving the health and wellbeing of almajiris, who often lack access to essential healthcare services.

“Many of these children face severe health challenges due to inadequate support. With this enrollment, their medical needs will now be taken care of,”

Also speaking, the Tsangaya teacher, Malam Ahmed Abubakar, praised the initiative as life-changing.

He revealed that before the intervention, the students contributed ₦10 each week to purchase painkillers and basic first aid, while serious cases required hospital visits.

“With this enrollment, the burden has been lifted, and the students will now receive adequate medical attention,”
