Residents of Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State were thrown into panic on Tuesday following a loud explosion at the Bagudo General Hospital.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on December 30, 2025, but assured the public that no lives were lost.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies responded swiftly to the incident to secure the area and prevent any further threat to public safety.
According to him, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, and Vigilante personnel immediately cordoned off the affected area, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) specialists were deployed to conduct a detailed assessment.
SP Usman disclosed that although a building within the hospital staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely before the explosion, resulting in no casualties.
He added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to the area to maintain law and order, while a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion.
The Police Command urged residents to remain calm and to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to allow security operatives to carry out their duties without hindrance.
As of press time, the cause of the explosion had not been ascertained. However, authorities said efforts are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Normalcy has since returned to the community after the initial panic and confusion caused by the explosion.
