The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed over sites for the renovation of two hostel blocks at Federal Government College (FGC) Billiri and staff quarters at Mega School, Kaltungo, marking the immediate commencement of work on the projects.
The ceremony, held in Gombe State, attracted traditional rulers, education stakeholders, contractors and officials of the commission.
Speaking at the event, Gombe State Coordinator of the NEDC, Architect Usman Muhammad, said the projects were in line with the commission’s mandate to rebuild and strengthen educational infrastructure across the North East. He noted that improving learning and living conditions in schools remains a priority of the intervention agency.
According to him, the renovation of the hostel blocks at FGC Billiri will provide students with safer and more conducive accommodation, while the upgrade of staff quarters at Mega School Kaltungo will enhance teachers’ welfare and productivity. He urged the contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications, timelines and quality standards.
The Mai Kaltungo, Engineer Saleh Muhammad, commended the commission for its sustained support to the education sector. He described the projects as timely interventions that would positively impact both students and teachers, and appealed to members of the host communities to support the contractors to ensure smooth execution.
The Principal of FGC Billiri, Mr. Josiah Ishaiku Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for selecting the school as a beneficiary. He said the renovation would significantly improve students’ comfort, safety and overall learning experience, assuring the commission of the school’s full cooperation.
On behalf of the contractors, Ali Abdulqadir thanked the NEDC for the confidence placed in them and pledged that the projects would be delivered in line with agreed standards and within the stipulated timeframe.
The interventions are expected to boost educational standards, improve staff welfare and strengthen the learning environment in both Federal Government College Billiri and Mega School Kaltungo.
