The Kano State Government KNSG has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s economic empowerment and inclusive growth with the launch of the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Training Programme in Kano.
The programme, was held in line with the state’s Kano First Agenda focused on inclusive economic growth and human capital development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, conveyed the goodwill message of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
She described the SIYB training as timely and strategic, noting that it would promote entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihoods, particularly for women, youth, and persons with special needs.
The training is being organized by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs.
The Commissioner commended the organizers, stating that the initiative aligns with global best practices on inclusive economic growth and women-led enterprise development.
She emphasized that women’s economic empowerment remains a core priority of the Kano State Government.
According to her, the state government currently disburses ₦50,000 monthly to over 52,000 women across the 44 local government areas, alongside other empowerment programmes designed to promote self-reliance, strengthen small and medium-scale enterprises, and reduce economic vulnerability at the grassroots.
She further reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Federal Government, development partners, and international organizations, including the ILO, to advance entrepreneurship, skills development, and women’s economic inclusion.
Also speaking at the event, the Zonal Director and Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, North-West Zone, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu, said the training aims to equip entrepreneurs especially women, youth, and persons with special needs—with practical skills to start, manage, and grow sustainable businesses.
He disclosed that the programme, described as the first of its kind in Kano State, would now be conducted monthly to ensure participants from all 44 local government areas benefit.
The event ended with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to sustain collaboration on initiatives that empower women, strengthen families, and promote sustainable economic growth in Kano State.
