Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has flagged off the distribution of food palliatives and ₦20 million cash assistance to 3,000 vulnerable residents of the Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai Federal Constituency.
The intervention was facilitated by the lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Bukar Talba, as part of efforts to support vulnerable households and complement ongoing government social protection programmes.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Saturday, was conducted on behalf of Governor Zulum by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani, who commended the lawmaker for prioritising grassroots development and aligning with the state government’s rebuilding agenda.
According to officials, the programme will benefit 3,000 constituents, with 1,000 beneficiaries drawn from each of the three local government areas. Each beneficiary received a bag of rice, a carton of spaghetti, and cash support as part of the relief package.
Speaking at the event, Governor Zulum praised Talba’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents, noting that such initiatives support the government’s broader mission of rebuilding communities affected by over a decade of insurgency.
In his remarks, Talba said the intervention forms part of his continued efforts to provide relief and improve living conditions across the constituency.
“As your representative, I remain steadfast in aligning our efforts with the vision and development agenda of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum,” Talba said. “We are committed to ensuring that meaningful development and democratic dividends reach every corner of our constituency.”
He added that his office has facilitated several development projects, including solar-powered boreholes to improve access to clean water, construction of classrooms, distribution of school uniforms and instructional materials, and installation of solar-powered street lights to enhance security.
Talba also noted that water pumps and other empowerment initiatives have been implemented to support livelihoods and promote self-reliance among residents.
He described the palliative distribution as part of ongoing efforts to provide succour to vulnerable families, particularly during the Ramadan period.
The event was attended by key government officials and political stakeholders, including Acting Chief of Staff Dr Babagana Mallumbe, APC State Chairman Bello Ayuba, members of the State House of Assembly representing Monguno, Marte, and Nganzai, commissioners, local government chairmen, and party leaders.
