The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has issued a public warning of heightened security threats across the North East region, following recent suicide bombing incidents and intelligence indicating a possible escalation of attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist elements during the final days of Ramadan.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, stated that the unfortunate incidents recorded on Monday evening in Maiduguri—including attacks near Monday Market, the Post Office, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital—led to casualties and highlighted the continued intent of terrorists to target densely populated civilian areas.

He noted that historical trends show terrorist groups often intensify attacks during significant religious periods, particularly around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan, when markets, mosques, motor parks, and other public areas experience increased human traffic.
The Joint Task Force has urged members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly in crowded locations such as mosques, prayer grounds, markets, bus terminals, hospitals, and major road junctions.
Worshippers attending night prayers, including Taraweeh and Tahajjud, are advised to cooperate with security personnel conducting screenings and access controls.
The statement recommended several precautionary measures, including:
Being alert to suspicious persons or unusual behavior
Reporting unattended bags, parcels, or suspicious objects
Avoiding overcrowded areas when possible
Cooperating fully with security agencies during security checks
Monitoring the movement of children, especially during evening hours
Community leaders, religious authorities, market associations, and transport unions were also urged to support security efforts by sensitizing their members and promptly reporting any suspicious activities.

Security agencies across the North East have already increased patrols, surveillance, and protective measures around critical locations to prevent further attacks.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba emphasized that cooperation from citizens remains vital in counter-terrorism efforts, noting that timely reporting has helped security forces prevent attacks and apprehend terrorist collaborators.
The public is advised to remain calm but vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest security formation or through established emergency channels, ensuring that citizens can observe the remaining days of Ramadan and upcoming Eid celebrations in safety.
