As part of efforts to promote awareness of data protection and privacy among young Nigerians, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has engaged corps members at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Abuja.
The sensitisation visit, led by a Research and Development officer of the Commission, Princewill Odinaka, focused on educating participants about the growing importance of safeguarding personal data in an increasingly digital world.
Speaking during the session, Odinaka stressed the need for corps members to be cautious about how they share personal information, particularly with the widespread use of the internet and emerging technologies. He urged them to understand and exercise their privacy rights at all times.
He also highlighted career prospects within the data protection ecosystem, noting that the Federal Government, through the NDPC, has localised the Data Protection Officer (DPO) certification programme to build capacity among Nigerians, especially youths.
The NDPC official explained that the initiative is designed to equip young people with relevant skills to take advantage of opportunities in the evolving digital economy.
In his remarks, the FCT Coordinator of the NYSC, Samson Ateli, welcomed the Commission’s team and commended the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to corps members.
The visit further strengthened collaboration between the NDPC and the NYSC, while creating a platform for continuous awareness and capacity development among Nigerian youths.
It also reflects a shared commitment by both organisations to empower young Nigerians with the knowledge required to navigate and thrive responsibly in today’s data-driven environment.
