The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, has conducted unscheduled supervisory visits to Lawan Dambazau Primary Health Centre, Fuskar Arewa, and Dala Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Centre in Dala Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen quality and 24-hour healthcare service delivery across Kano State.
During the visits, the DG inspected critical service units including Immunization, Antenatal Care (ANC), Growth Monitoring, Outpatient Department (OPD), Labour Room, and Maternity Units, where he carried out on-the-job mentoring and supervision of frontline health workers.
At Lawan Dambazau PHC, Professor Salisu identified several challenges affecting effective healthcare delivery, including shortage of professional staff, poor sanitation, leaking roofs, inadequate lighting, lack of constant water supply, and insufficient delivery equipment.
He expressed concern over poor facility maintenance and directed immediate corrective measures to improve standards and efficiency.
As part of the interventions, the DG approved the deployment of nine professional health workers, including a midwife for the labour room, and directed the organisation of capacity-building training for staff on antenatal, labour, and delivery services.
He also instructed the Dala Primary Health Care Coordinator to facilitate additional staff deployment after the Sallah celebration to support the Board’s 24-hour healthcare service initiative.
At Dala MCH Centre, Professor Salisu supervised activities across various service units and warned health workers against negligence of duty, especially at the Growth Monitoring Unit.
He further directed the facility management to utilise internally generated revenue and support funds to procure essential medical equipment and consumables to improve healthcare services, while commending the maternity unit for maintaining adequate emergency drug supplies.
Speaking during the visit, the Representative of the District Head of Dala, Wakilin Fuskar Arewa, Alhaji Faruk Sayyadi Yola, commended the DG for the proactive supervision and commitment toward improving healthcare delivery in the area.
He assured the Board of continued community support and collaboration to achieve better health outcomes for residents.
