The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has received an accreditation team from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) to assess its Residency Training Programme in the Department of Internal Medicine, with a focus on the subspecialties of Nephrology and Endocrinology.
The accreditation team, led by Prof. Fatiu Arogundade, was welcomed by the hospital’s management headed by the Medical Director, Prof. Saad Ahmed.

Speaking during a roundtable meeting with the visitors, Prof. Ahmed said the hospital is continuing to expand its medical and training services to strengthen healthcare delivery and enhance specialist medical education.
According to him, FMC Abuja has recorded significant growth in service provision aimed at improving access to quality healthcare and reducing the need for Nigerians to seek medical treatment abroad.
“Our goal is to provide prompt and accessible medical care to all Nigerians. The hospital is currently experiencing significant service expansion in a bid to reverse medical tourism through the expertise and dedication of our medical professionals,” he said.
Prof. Ahmed described the accreditation exercise as an important peer-review process that would help the institution identify areas for improvement and further strengthen its healthcare services.
He noted that training remains a critical component of quality healthcare delivery, stressing that the hospital places high priority on capacity building and professional development for its workforce.
The Medical Director also assured the accreditation team of the hospital’s full cooperation throughout the assessment exercise.
Earlier, the team leader, Prof. Arogundade, commended the management of FMC Abuja for the warm reception accorded members of the delegation.
“We appreciate the management of the hospital for the warm and excellent reception given to us. We are optimistic that the accreditation exercise will be successful,” he said.
Following the meeting, members of the accreditation team and the hospital management took a group photograph before proceeding to the relevant departments for the accreditation exercise.

The assessment is expected to evaluate the institution’s capacity to sustain high standards in specialist residency training in Nephrology and Endocrinology in line with the requirements of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
