The newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Maitama, has assumed office with a pledge to strengthen the state’s internally generated revenue through transparency, accountability, innovation and teamwork.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the KIRS headquarters on Monday, Alhaji Maitama expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity to lead the Service and thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the confidence reposed in him.
He assured the governor and the people of Kano State of his commitment to delivering on the mandate entrusted to him, describing his appointment as a collective responsibility that requires the support and cooperation of management and staff.
The new chairman said his administration would operate an open, transparent and inclusive leadership style, stressing that achieving revenue targets, expanding the tax net and deepening the state’s tax base would remain top priorities.
He urged members of staff to embrace innovation and creative thinking in improving revenue collection, assuring them that his office would remain open to constructive ideas and meaningful contributions.
Alhaji Maitama also commended his predecessor for laying a solid foundation for the Service and acknowledged the contributions of KIRS’ technical partner, Manam Professional Services, towards the agency’s transformation.
Earlier, the Acting Executive Chairman and Executive Director, Compliance and Enforcement Group, Mallam Muhammad Abba Aliyu, welcomed the new chairman and prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom as he assumes leadership of the Service.
He urged members of staff to give the new chairman their full support and cooperation to sustain the growth of internally generated revenue in the state.
Also speaking, the Executive Director, Revenue Operations Group, Mallam Kassim Ismail, expressed confidence in Alhaji Maitama’s leadership and pledged the support of his directorate in achieving the Service’s mandate.
The ceremony concluded with the formal handover of leadership from the Acting Executive Chairman to Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Maitama.
