As part of efforts to strengthen accountability in the management of security funds and address rising insecurity in border communities, the Kano State House of Assembly has called for an investigation into the utilisation of monthly security allocations to local government councils following renewed attacks by suspected bandits in parts of the state.
This was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency, Garba Gwarmai, during plenary presided over by the Speaker Isma’il Falgore.

Gwarmai explained that, communities in Tsanyawa LGA had witnessed repeated attacks in recent weeks, with the worsening security situation disrupting farming, education, healthcare services and commercial activities.
He informed the House that the latest attack occurred in Yan Cibi community of Yan Kamaye Ward, where suspected bandits allegedly attempted to abduct residents and rustle livestock before they were repelled by security operatives.
According to the lawmaker, the attack claimed the life of a community leader and vigilante member, Yusuf Adamu, while several residents sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
He commended the military and the police for recovering many of the rustled cattle but noted that the difficult terrain along the Kano-Katsina border prevented security operatives from pursuing the fleeing attackers.
Gwarmai appealed to the Kano State and Federal Governments to strengthen security in the affected communities through the deployment of additional personnel and improved logistics.
The lawmaker also questioned the utilisation of the monthly security allocations reportedly released to local government councils, alleging that security personnel operating in the area lacked adequate logistical support despite the availability of the funds.
He recalled that the Assembly had earlier directed the affected local government authorities to submit reports on the utilisation of the security allocations but said the directive had yet to be complied with.
After careful deliberations, the House mandated its relevant committee to investigate the utilisation of the security funds by the affected local government and ensure accountability in their management.

The Assembly also urged the Kano State and Federal Governments to take immediate measures to strengthen security across border communities and prevent the attacks from spreading to other parts of the state.
