The Kano Online Media Chapel has organized a one-day capacity-building workshop to enhance the knowledge and skills of journalists on effective and professional election coverage.

Speaking at the workshop, the Chairman of the Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Dangambo, said the training was organized in collaboration with the Aminu Magashi Garba (AGM) Foundation to prepare journalists for responsible and ethical reporting throughout the electoral process.

Dangambo explained that the initiative was aimed at strengthening members’ professional competence and equipping them with the necessary skills to report elections accurately, fairly, and in line with established ethical standards.

In his remarks, former Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Information, Comrade Usman Bello, urged journalists to prioritize their safety by adhering to the professional guidelines and safety protocols outlined during the workshop.

He noted that compliance with these standards would contribute to credible, safe, and responsible election coverage.

The training was facilitated by former NUJ Kano Chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, who delivered presentations on best practices for election reporting before, during, and after elections.

He also highlighted personal safety measures and strategies for minimizing security risks commonly faced by journalists and members of the public during election periods.

The workshop attracted prominent media stakeholders and journalism leaders, including Kano NUJ Chairman Comrade Sulaiman Dederi, Kano NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Bahijja Malam Kabara;Publisher of Solacebase, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos; Barrister Nura; and other distinguished guests.
