The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) is participating in the ongoing development and validation of the African Continental Curriculum Framework (ACCF) in Windhoek, Namibia.
The three-day workshop, which commenced on August 11 and will run until August 13, 2026, is providing a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and technical engagement on the development of a harmonised curriculum framework for African education systems, covering Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through secondary education.
The initiative forms part of continental efforts to strengthen collaboration among African Union member states towards the harmonisation and advancement of curriculum frameworks across the continent, in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA).
Participants at the workshop are expected to identify priority competencies, values and learning areas for African learners, while exploring mechanisms for harmonising curricula without undermining national and regional contexts.
The event is organised by the African Union (AU) in collaboration with Namibia’s Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC).
It brings together Directors of Curriculum and curriculum experts from AU member states to deliberate on the roadmap for the African Continental Curriculum Framework (ACCF) and chart the way forward for its development and implementation.
Nigeria is represented at the workshop by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu, and the Head of the Council’s Curriculum Development Centre, Dr Chima Egbujuo.
Dr Egbujuo is expected to make a paper presentation during the workshop as participants examine strategies for developing a curriculum framework that responds to Africa’s educational priorities while reflecting the diverse contexts of member states.
The development of the ACCF is expected to strengthen cooperation among African countries and contribute to the preparation of learners with relevant knowledge, skills, values and competencies needed to support the continent’s development agenda.
