The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has congratulated 132 veterinary surgeons inducted as Fellows of the Postgraduate College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria (PCVSN).
The Fellows were inducted during the 6th Convocation and 8th Investiture Ceremony of the college held at the A.I. Abdulkadir Auditorium of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Maitama, Abuja.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, represented by the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria (CVON), Dr Samuel Akawu Anzaku; former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Faruk Yahaya (Rtd), CFR, NAM, Zarumman Sokoto; President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Prof. Matthew Adamu; and other stakeholders in the veterinary profession.
Also in attendance were the keynote speaker, Dr Junaidu Maina; Acting Registrar of the PCVSN, Prof. Joseph Fadeyemi Akirinmade; former VCN President, AIG Aisha Abubakar Baju; Acting Registrar of the VCN, Dr Oladotun Ebenezer Fadipe; resource persons and other dignitaries.
Representing the NVMA President, Dr Moses Arokoyo, the association’s Secretary-General, Dr Japhet Daniel, congratulated the new Fellows on successfully completing their postgraduate training.
Daniel urged the newly inducted Fellows to deploy the knowledge, skills and expertise acquired during their training towards advancing animal health, public health and national development.
He also called on the Minister of Livestock Development, the Permanent Secretary and other relevant authorities to give due consideration to the new Fellows in recruitment and professional engagement opportunities.
According to him, providing opportunities for the specialists would enable Nigeria to fully harness their expertise and contribute to strengthening the country’s livestock and veterinary sectors.
The NVMA leadership further encouraged the new Fellows to work together and embrace collective leadership, stressing that collaboration would be critical to advancing the veterinary profession and improving animal and public health outcomes in Nigeria.
