The Management of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, has taken steps to improve medical services on the university campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, disclosed this when he visited the University Medical Centre to assess the services being provided to students and other members of the university community.

During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor interacted with senior personnel of the Medical Centre and charged them to prioritise the wellbeing of patients and ensure effective service delivery.
Professor Ahmed said the university would deploy counsellors to the facility to provide psychosocial support and promote the mental wellbeing of patients, particularly students.
The Deputy Director, University Health Services, Dr Alex Otu, received the Vice-Chancellor and briefed him on the availability of medical consumables at the facility.
Dr Otu assured the Vice-Chancellor of the commitment of the health workers to providing effective medical services to members of the university community.

He said the Medical Centre would do everything possible to ensure that students complete their examinations without being hindered by health challenges.
Responding, Professor Ahmed charged doctors, nurses and other health workers to demonstrate diligence, professionalism and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the need to give priority to students, particularly during the examination period, when access to timely medical attention is critical.
He appreciated the health workers for their efforts and encouraged them to sustain their commitment to the provision of quality healthcare services.

Professor Ahmed was accompanied on the visit by the Dean of Students, Professor Junaidu B. Sahalu; Director of Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar; and the Acting Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T. Zango.
The visit formed part of the university management’s efforts to assess existing healthcare services and identify areas requiring further support and improvement.
