Seven exceptional frontline health workers have been honoured at the 4th edition of the Dr. Aminu Magashi Annual Award of Excellence, held on Saturday, 17th January 2026 at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano.
Providing an overview of the initiative, the Director of Operations of the Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG) Foundation, Mallam Jalo Sulaiman, explained that the award was instituted and launched in Abuja in early 2022 to identify, honour, and celebrate unsung frontline health workers across Nigeria.
He noted that the initiative seeks to promote professionalism, resilience, and innovative approaches to addressing challenges in healthcare delivery.
Mallam Jalo added that the 2025 edition had earlier celebrated outstanding health workers from Bauchi, Borno, and Sokoto States in December, where each recipient received an award and a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira.
The seven awardees for the 2025 edition in Kano, who will also receive awards and a cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira each, are:
1. Maryam Musa Maishanu – Most Dedicated PHC Staff
2. Aliyu Ibrahim – Most Dedicated PHC Staff
3. Shu’aibu Ishaq Salisu – Most Committed Volunteer PHC Staff
4. Maryam Badamasi Hussain – Most Committed Volunteer PHC Staff
5. Tajouddeen A. Rabi’u – Most Patient-Friendly PHC Staff
6. Amina Ali Umar – Most Patient-Friendly PHC Staff
7. Shu’aibu Kabir Abdullahi – Best Performing LGA Immunization Officer
In their separate remarks, participants and awardees commended the AMG Foundation for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a powerful motivation for health workers and a significant contribution to strengthening healthcare services in Kano State and beyond.
The event was attended by prominent personalities and organisations, including the CEO of Pharma Plus Nigeria, Pharm. Ahmad Ibrahim Yakasai; the Director-General of the Kano Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad A. Abbas; Mukhtar Rabi’u Abubakar, Deputy Director and Project Manager of the State Emergency Routine Immunization Coordination Centre; heads of NGOs, families of the awardees, and members of the media.
