The Federal Government has disbursed more than N48 billion to vulnerable households in Kano State under the Household Prosperity and Empowerment – Conditional Cash Transfer (HoPE-CT) programme, as part of the renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, made this known during a ministerial visit to Kano, where he engaged directly with beneficiaries of the programme.
The initiative forms part of a broader policy framework known as One Humanitarian, One Poverty Response System, designed to ensure coordinated, transparent, and results-driven interventions in tackling poverty across the country.
A breakdown of the disbursement shows that N19.6 billion was released in the first tranche, N14.5 billion in the second, and N13.9 billion in the third, bringing the total to N48,130,875,000. Each beneficiary received up to N75,000 under the scheme, which covered all 44 local government areas of Kano State.
Dr. Doro explained that the purpose of his visit was to assess the impact of the programme and gather firsthand feedback from beneficiaries to ensure effective implementation.
The minister also warned that the programme is free of charge and urged beneficiaries to report any form of extortion, assuring that accountability measures have been strengthened.
Doro further advised recipients to make prudent use of the funds by investing in income-generating activities that could improve their economic conditions.
In his remarks, the Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, said the visit reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens.
According to her, the state has also supported 5,200 women with monthly grants of N50,000 as start-up capital, and provided food assistance to 500 families during the International Day of Families.
The HOPE-CT programme is a key pillar of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at establishing a well-structured and sustainable social protection system.
