The President-General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has strongly condemned the gruesome mob lynching of Ummulkhair in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, describing the incident as one of the darkest manifestations of lawlessness in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Secretary-General of JNI, Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the Sultan said the organisation received the news “with profound shock, immense grief, and utter disbelief.”

He said the tragic incident had exposed the frightening collapse of moral restraint, the dangerous spread of misinformation, and the growing normalisation of jungle justice across the country.
“Indeed, human life in Nigeria has been reduced to nothing with the increasing stains of blood on the Nigerian shore,” the statement read.
The Sultan called for an immediate, transparent, and thorough investigation into the killing, insisting that every individual directly or indirectly involved in the lynching must be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
JNI also expressed concern over allegations against the Divisional Police Officer of the Maraban Jos Division, who was reportedly accused of surrendering the victim to the angry mob instead of ensuring her constitutional protection.
The organisation stated that if investigations establish negligence, misconduct, or deliberate complicity by any security personnel, those involved should face the full weight of the law.
“The duty of law enforcement is the protection of life, never surrendering citizens to mob violence,” the statement stressed.
In addition, the Sultan called for the payment of Diyya (compensation) to the bereaved family and urged the Kaduna State Government to take humane and lasting measures to support the family.
He specifically appealed to the government to assume responsibility for the education of Ummulkhair’s daughters and other children left behind, stressing that such interventions must be meaningful and not merely symbolic.
