The quarter-final stage of the 2026 Gombe Emir’s Cup, tagged the King’s Cup, continues today Saturday, July 18, with Gombe Emirate Council taking on Funakaye Emirate Council at the Deba Township Stadium.
The highly anticipated encounter, scheduled to kick off at 3:00 p.m., will determine which side advances to the semi-finals of the competition.
Both teams secured their places in the knockout stage after impressive performances and are expected to produce a fiercely contested match, with talented young players on both sides aiming to keep their title hopes alive.
The tournament is organised and sponsored by Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, Chief Executive Officer of Green White Green Outfit, as part of his efforts to promote grassroots football, youth development and unity across Gombe State.
Football enthusiasts and supporters of both teams are expected to turn out in large numbers to cheer their sides in what promises to be an exciting contest.
Other quarter-final fixtures include Late Shehu Abubakar Team against Tula Traditional Council on Sunday, July 19, Pindiga versus Nafada Emirate Council on July 20, while Dukku Emirate Council Team will face Dadiya Traditional Council on July 21.
Football followers have commended Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, a former Chairman of the Gombe State Football Association and former Chairman of Gombe United FC, for reviving the Emir’s Cup and providing a platform for discovering and nurturing young football talents across the state.
The organisers said dates for the semi-finals and the final will be announced after the conclusion of the quarter-final matches.
