The Federal Government has handed over 129 completed housing units to beneficiaries at the Nasarawa Technology Village, Karu, Nasarawa State, as part of efforts to expand access to affordable housing under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who handed over the keys to the beneficiaries, said the development demonstrated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to making homeownership more accessible to Nigerians.
“The Renewed Hope Housing Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places housing at the heart of improving the lives of Nigerians. Today, we are handing over keys to 129 Nigerian families. I want to assure Nigerians that more houses will be delivered by December 2026,” the Minister said.
The housing units were funded by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and developed by Modern Shelter Systems and Services Limited under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement with the Nasarawa State Government.
Darma reaffirmed the Federal Government’s target of providing 100,000 housing units to Nigerians before the end of President Tinubu’s first tenure.
He said the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), FMBN and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development would continue to work towards achieving the target.
The Minister explained that the 129 beneficiaries were among those who could not take possession of their allocations at the Brains and Hammers Bungalow City, which was subsequently allocated to Nigerian military personnel.
He assured the remaining 122 beneficiaries that their housing units would be delivered by December 2026, bringing the total number of units earmarked for the affected beneficiaries to 251.
Darma expressed satisfaction with the appreciation expressed by beneficiaries, saying their positive feedback would motivate the government to intensify efforts to deliver more housing projects.
“It is a motivation for us to continue to deliver,” he said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Shehu Usman Osidi, commended the Minister for his efforts towards translating the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda into tangible projects.
Osidi also commended the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for what he described as his support for the Federal Government’s housing initiative.
He noted that Sule was the first governor to allocate land to the Federal Government for the housing programme and personally travelled to Abuja to present the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Ministry.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Minister for enabling them to become homeowners, describing the handover as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream.
The delivery of the 129 housing units is expected to further support the Federal Government’s efforts to increase access to affordable housing and expand homeownership opportunities for Nigerian families under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.
The event featured the symbolic presentation of keys to the beneficiaries by the Minister.
