In a bid to enhance the transportation infrastructure of Kano State, the government has inaugurated a 30-member technical working committee to review and develop a comprehensive transport policy.

The inauguration was conducted by the Commissioner of Transportation, Engr. Muhammad Ibrahim Diggol.

This initiative aims to address the challenges in the state’s transport sector and align its policies with modern realities, paving the way for a sustainable and efficient transport system.

The Information Officer for the Ministry of Transportation, Ibrahim Adamu Kofar Nassarawa, noted that the committee’s formation is part of the government’s broader strategy to ensure an inclusive and participatory approach in policy formulation.

With representation from various institutions and experts in transportation, the committee is poised to undertake a holistic review of existing policies and propose actionable recommendations for improvement.

The terms of reference for the committee include conducting a thorough review of the draft transport policy, identifying and addressing gaps, and developing a transport policy green paper for the state.

The committee is also tasked with submitting its final report by the 20th of the month.

These objectives are aimed at creating a robust framework that reflects the realities and aspirations of Kano State’s transportation needs.

Leadership of the committee includes Professor J.A. Falola from Yusuf Maitama Sule University as Chairman and Professor Adamu Idris Tanko, Vice Chancellor of Baba Ahmed University, as Co-Chairman.

Other prominent members include Professor Bamidele Badejo, Abdulkadir Muhammad Danbazau from Aliko Dangote University, Bello Abba Yakasai, Dr. Aisha Sa’id Bala, Professor Ibrahim Barde, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue.

This diverse membership ensures a multi-faceted approach to the policy dialogue.

The Kano State government emphasizes the importance of the committee’s work in setting the tone for a transport system that not only meets current demands but also anticipates future challenges.

It is expected that the committee will leverage the expertise of its members to craft innovative solutions that improve mobility, reduce congestion, and promote environmental sustainability within the state.

With the submission deadline approaching, the committee has been urged to prioritize efficiency and thoroughness in its deliberations.

This effort underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing its transportation landscape and fostering economic growth through better connectivity and infrastructure development.
