The Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association in Kano has been thrown into chaos after its Chairman, Ambassador Ishaq Alqassim Tatari was suspended by some of the executive members.
The suspension was announced on Thursday by the association’s Public Relations Officer 1 Saifullahi Lawan Ahmad.
According to Ahmad, the suspension was necessitated by several allegations against Alqassim, including, running the association single-handedly without consulting executive members.
“Selling projects and stalls meant for the association”
“Using his personal bank account to manage the association’s funds, resulting in a lack of transparency and accountability”
However, Tatari has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as “baseless, unfounded, and lies.”
He claims that the executive members lack the power to suspend him, as only the board of trustees can take such action.
Tatari alleged that the suspension is a ploy to remove him due to his efforts to prevent corruption and sharp practices within the association.
He stated that the association’s funds have never been deposited into his personal account and that the allegations are a calculated attempt to tarnish his image.
The suspension has sparked a leadership crisis within the association, with Alqassim refusing to accept the decision.
