The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to eleven academic programmes at Al-Istiqama University Sumaila, following a comprehensive assessment exercise conducted in November and December 2025.
The university management disclosed this in a statement sigbed by the VC Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya,noting that the accreditation was based on the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), with emphasis on curriculum quality, academic staffing, physical infrastructure, library resources, and employers’ rating.
According to the NUC report, the fully accredited programmes cut across three faculties. In the Faculty of Health Sciences, the programmes include Community Health Science, Nursing Science, and Public Health.
In the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, the accredited courses are Shari’ah, Criminology and Security Studies, International Relations, and Sociology.
Similarly, in the Faculty of Science and Computing, the programmes granted full accreditation are Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Software Engineering.
The management described the development as a major milestone that underscores the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and quality service delivery in higher education.
It added that the achievement reflects the dedication and professionalism of both academic and administrative staff in building a centre of excellence.
With the new status, all eleven programmes have secured full recognition for a period of five years.
The university also expressed appreciation to its founder, Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, the Governing Council, faculty members, heads of departments, staff, and students for their collective efforts in achieving the feat.
The statement further reaffirmed the institution’s resolve to sustain and enhance the high standards that earned it the accreditation.
Al-Istiqama University noted that the recognition would further strengthen its capacity to deliver quality education and produce graduates equipped to meet national and global demands.
