The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has formally presented the Aerodrome Certificate for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The presentation took place at the NCAA Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, represented by the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Alhaji Ahmad Abba, described the certification as a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
He noted that the achievement underscores NCAA’s commitment to aviation safety, strict regulatory compliance, and alignment with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices, particularly as Nigeria prepares for ICAO Continuous Monitoring Approach assessments.
Capt. Najomo commended FAAN for its cooperation and dedication throughout the five-phase certification process, which led to the successful issuance of the certificate.
In her remarks, the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, represented by the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms. Adebola Agunbiade, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between both agencies.
She acknowledged the efforts of the NCAA, FAAN technical teams, and other stakeholders whose contributions made the certification possible.
Mrs. Kuku assured that FAAN would continue to comply with regulatory standards while improving operational efficiency and safety across all Nigerian airports.
The certification is expected to further strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s aviation industry and enhance international recognition of the country’s airport operations.
