The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, has intensified efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the learning environment at the institution through strategic engagements with key government agencies and private sector stakeholders.

As part of the initiative, Professor Bayero led a university delegation on a follow-up visit to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) regarding the proposed solarization project for the university.

The delegation subsequently paid a courtesy and advocacy visit to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Abuja to seek support for addressing the institution’s power challenges and expanding access to sustainable energy solutions.

Although the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the REA, Engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu, was unavailable, the delegation was received by the Agency’s Executive Director of Technical Services, Engineer Umar Abdullahi Umar.

Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the growing electricity demands of the university, driven by increasing student enrolment and staff population.

She stressed the need for intervention from relevant agencies to provide reliable and sustainable power supply capable of supporting teaching, learning, research, and administrative activities.

Professor Bayero noted that the university was exploring collaboration with the REA to address its persistent electricity challenges and improve energy access across the institution.

“We are here to discuss the power needs of our university and explore ways through which your esteemed office can assist us in providing lasting solutions to the electricity challenges confronting our institution,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor formally presented a letter of request to the Agency, outlining the university’s energy requirements and areas where support is needed.

Responding, Engineer Umar welcomed the delegation and assured the university that requests relating to electrification and power supply align closely with the Agency’s mandate.

He acknowledged the critical role of stable electricity in advancing quality education and institutional development, pledging that the Agency would carefully review the university’s request and explore possible areas of intervention.

“This kind of request is not new to us because most of the requests we receive are centred around power supply. We will look into your request and see what can be done,” he stated.

The REA official further emphasized that the Agency remains committed to collaborating with institutions across the country to address energy challenges and promote sustainable development.

He also commended Professor Bayero for her proactive leadership and commitment to attracting developmental projects that would positively impact the university community.

In a related engagement, the Vice-Chancellor and her team on June 11 visited UYK Holdings, where they met with the company’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Usman Yahaya Kansila.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest and opportunities for supporting the growth and development of Northwest University Kano.

Dr. Kansila praised the developmental initiatives being pursued by the university management and expressed readiness to support the institution’s advancement efforts where possible.

He also offered strategic advice to the university leadership and pledged continued collaboration aimed at promoting institutional growth.

The visits formed part of the Vice-Chancellor’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, development organisations, and private sector stakeholders in pursuit of infrastructural development, improved service delivery, and sustainable growth at the university.

Members of the delegation included the Director of Advancement and Linkages, Professor Abdulmumini Yunusa, the University Protocol Officer, Abubakar Ado Gwaram, and other senior university officials.

The engagements are expected to deepen collaboration between Northwest University Kano, the Rural Electrification Agency, TETFund, and UYK Holdings, while creating new opportunities to address the institution’s energy needs and support its long-term development objectives.
