The Kebbi State Government has constituted a high-powered committee to coordinate relief assistance for residents displaced by insecurity in Yauri, Shanga, Ngaski and Koko Besse Local Government Areas of the state.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and made available to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the move is part of the state government’s deliberate efforts to address the humanitarian challenges arising from recent security threats in the affected communities.
The committee has been directed to immediately commence operations and begin the provision of relief materials to displaced persons, with members expected to relocate to the affected local government areas and start work no later than Monday.
Its terms of reference include ensuring the continuous supply of relief materials to victims of insecurity until normalcy is fully restored in the affected areas.
Members of the committee include the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Muhammed Hamidu Jarkuka; the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA); chairmen of Yauri, Shanga, Ngaski and Koko Besse Local Government Areas; and Directors of Social Services from the four councils.
Other members are representatives of the Ministry of Internal Security, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, will serve as Secretary of the committee.
The Kebbi State Government reiterated its commitment to supporting communities affected by insecurity and ensuring the welfare of displaced residents across the state.
