The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has been affirmed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise was held at the APC headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State, with thousands of party members drawn from the 13 local government areas of the senatorial district in attendance.
Officials from the national headquarters of the APC and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also observed the exercise.
At about 2:20 p.m., the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the Kano North Senatorial Primary Election, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, called on party members to affirm Senator Barau as the party’s candidate. The motion was met with a loud and unanimous affirmation from delegates present.
Similarly, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, also presented the candidate for endorsement, which was unanimously approved by party members.
Speaking after the exercise, the INEC monitoring team leader, Mr Abdulrahman Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the process.
In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, commended the smooth conduct of the exercise and expressed confidence that the APC would record strong performance in the 2027 elections in Kano North.
He said the party remained united and expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Barau, and other APC candidates would secure victory at the polls.
“We are happy. Kano North is for APC at all times. We are one family in APC. Insha Allah, before noon on election day, Senator Barau will secure his seat, while President Tinubu and all our candidates will emerge victorious,” he said.
Responding, Senator Barau thanked party members for their support and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership of the country and the APC.
He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as ongoing efforts to reposition Kano State, expressing optimism about continued development in the state.
Senator Barau urged party supporters in Kano State to remain united and continue supporting the APC at all levels, stressing the importance of cohesion in delivering development across federal, state, and local government tiers.
He also called for peaceful and active participation in the 2027 general elections.
