    Uphold Ethics as We Reform Procurement for Citizens’ Benefit-KNSG

    The Kano State Government KNSG has called on media practitioners to operate strictly within professional standards and ethical guidelines to safeguard the integrity of journalism from selfish interests.

    The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made the appeal while briefing newsmen in Kano.

    Speaking on recent reports concerning allegations against some government officials, handled the story fell short of established journalism standards.

    He emphasized that financial transactions in the present administration are conducted transparently and without the acts of fronting or demands for kickbacks that characterized previous governments.

    The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the operations of the Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), describing it as the lead agency responsible for ensuring prudence, fiscal discipline, and financial integrity.

    He noted that PCACC has been granted full independence to operate without interference from government officials.

    “These interventions and reforms not only comply with legal frameworks but also reflect a progressive vision that places people over politics, quality over quantity, and integrity over expedience,”

    The commissioner explained that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has institutionalized reforms to promote good governance in line with global best practices, guided by the amended Kano State Public Procurement Law of 2021.

    According to him, the government has embarked on a decisive journey to reposition procurement processes and enhance monitoring mechanisms to ensure value for money, quality project delivery, and public confidence in government operations.

    Over the past two years, strategic interventions have been deployed to sanitize procurement processes, digitize oversight systems, empower Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and engage citizens directly in project monitoring and decision-making.

    Comrade Waiya highlighted some of the milestones recorded under the Yusuf-led administration, which include:

    Institutional enforcement of the Procurement Law,Periodic Procurement Audits,Annual Procurement and Disposal Plan (APDP), and Development of Standard Bidding Documents.

    Others are Digitization of Procurement and Monitoring Systems,Statewide Monitoring Framework,Monthly evaluation of projects across LGAs,Capacity building for MDAs as well as,.Policy frameworks and operational guidelines.

    “Community engagement in project monitoring,Radio engagement for public awareness”

    The commissioner assured that all financial transactions are carried out independently by the office of the Accountant General to further strengthen accountability.

    He reiterated the government’s commitment to mapping out policies and programs that will ensure citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.
