Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been named Financial Architect Governor of the Year 2026 by Daily Independent, following a competitive selection process involving multiple nominees.
Announcing the award, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Steve Omanufeme, said the governor emerged winner after a rigorous three-stage selection process.
According to him, the process included public voting, assessment by a panel of judges, and final approval by the newspaper’s board of editors.
The award was presented during the grand finale of the newspaper’s golden jubilee celebration held in Lagos.
Representing the governor at the event, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, received the award at the Eko Hotel and Suites.

The recognition, according to the organizers, reflects Governor Yusuf’s financial prudence and fiscal discipline, which have contributed to significant improvements in Kano State’s revenue generation.
The newspaper noted that the state’s internally generated revenue rose from between ₦37 billion and ₦40 billion in 2023 to over ₦100 billion by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
It added that the achievement positioned Kano among leading states in revenue performance, attributing the progress to reforms driven by the administration.
The organizers further stated that the governor’s efforts in infrastructure development and prudent management of public funds have strengthened public trust and confidence among taxpayers.
