The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has enhanced its strategic communication capacity through participation in a specialized Capacity-Building Training for Public Relations Officers (PROs).
The programme, organized by the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) in partnership with EngenderHealth, is taking place at the Nigeria Healthwatch Headquarters in Abuja.
The training is designed to strengthen strategic messaging, digital engagement, and media collaboration within the public health sector. Participants from Kano and Kaduna States are gaining practical skills in report writing, photography, digital content management, multi-channel public enlightenment campaigns, and professional press release preparation.
Facilitated by communication and public health experts, the sessions focused on developing clear and impactful health messages, engaging journalists proactively, and improving media visibility. Hands-on modules also covered photography for public health communication, visual storytelling, phone-based photography techniques, and effective media asset management to meet modern digital communication standards.
Additional sessions explored digital communication strategies for government agencies, including improving online credibility, managing official platforms, developing content calendars, and monitoring audience engagement. The training emphasized collaboration between government health institutions and media stakeholders to ensure coordinated and impactful public enlightenment campaigns across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
KSCHMA noted that the training aligns with its mandate to improve transparency, public awareness, and effective communication of health contributory initiatives across Kano State. The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to applying the knowledge gained to enhance community engagement, promote inclusive healthcare programmes, and support ongoing health sector reforms.
The first day of the programme concluded with a review of key lessons, participant feedback, and the establishment of a mentorship framework to sustain professional development and strengthen institutional communication practices.
