President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development in a statement.
According to him,the nomination, which is subject to confirmation by the Senate under Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026, comes following the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman, who served in the role for about 14 months.
In a letter sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu requested the expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf to lead the commission.
A seasoned Nigerian career diplomat, Ambassador Yusuf served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.
He brings extensive diplomatic experience to the position, which oversees the administration of the annual Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian Muslims.
