The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations of abuse of office and the diversion of public funds amounting to about N37 billion.
Ms Farouq, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2019 and 2023, is being investigated in connection with alleged financial misconduct during her tenure as minister.
In a public notice issued on Saturday and accompanied by her photograph, the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, called on members of the public to provide useful information that could assist in locating the former minister.
The commission said information about her whereabouts could be reported through any of its offices nationwide or via designated contact channels.
According to the notice, Sadiya Umar Farouq, aged 52, is from Zamfara State, and her last known address was listed as EN008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.
The anti-graft agency stated that the former minister is under investigation over the alleged diversion of approximately N37 billion during her time in office.
The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing probe into financial activities within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs during the period under review.
